.It seems to me, looking at the above map of the Middle East, that Iraq and Iran are awfully close, and that Iraq stands right between Israel and Iran.
It thereby goes by logic that U.S. interests in Iraq might not want nuclear missiles traveling overhead from point A to point B while American soldiers are there.
Further, although trade winds in the middle east are complex, winds commonly blow out of the North or Northeast into Iran, down into the Persian Gulf. So the nuclear fallout from an Israeli strike on Iran would travel towards Iraq and Saudi Arabia, blanketing Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, and UAE in radiation.
The point is, I highly doubt U.S. intelligence wouldn't know when an Israel-Iran conflict is about to start, and I think it would be in the U.S. best interest to pull our troops safely out of harm's way. So if you hear about major troop movements in Iraq, there's a chance it's just us getting out of harm's way.
