Sanjay Gupta, M.D. for Surgeon General

I'm really grasping at straws trying to figure out why Obama pegged Gupta for Surgeon General. He's basically just a doctor turned reporter turned doctor/reporter. It was even argued for a while that he was doing the reporting because he had let his medical credentials expire.

Then it hit me (and I hope I don't offend too many people with this):

Obama: Who should I nominate for Surgeon General?
Advisor: A liberal-media-friendly, minority doctor, or something.
Obama: What about that Indian fella on CNN?
Advisor: Perfect.
Obama: Schedule a press conference.

I only mention this because I have seen no coverage of it anywhere, like it isn't a big deal.
