The hooplah about Atlas Shrugged

I keep seeing bloggers call Ayn Rand a crank. Most of these people would not call John of Patmos a crank, they'd just say that the Book of Revelation seems like an acid trip when taken out of context...when it was written it was clear at whom the analogies and imagery were aimed.
So yes, Atlas Shrugged (note to all people who get paid to write: book titles are underlined. Dust off your MLA handbook) seems a little far-fetched and impractical and pointless as a philosophy lesson in this country in this millenium. But Ayn Rand is not a crackpot, just not contextually relevant.

Also, anyone who says "just skip the 40 pages of John Galt's speech" is basically admitting "I couldn't swallow it and I assume you are equal to, or dumber than, me."
